Anglican Media is bound by the National Privacy Principles set out in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) (the Privacy Act).
Anglican Media Sydney provides Media Related services consisting of Press releases, Newspaper Publication and Website information.
We usually collect personal information such as a person's name and address and Credit Card details to provide Newspaper and website articles and advertisements to an individual but we may collect other personal information as well. We use this information to Address correspondence etc in relation to subscriptions and payment of advertising. When we collect sensitive information (as defined in the Privacy Act) we will collect it with your consent, unless the law allows us to collect it without your consent.
We may share your information with other entities who are members of the Anglican Church Diocese of Sydney, including those entities who are located outside Australia. We will handle such personal information in accordance with the standards set out in our Privacy Policy.
Anglican Media Sydney may disclose your personal information to third party service providers, agents or contractors such as The mailing house which dispatches our monthly Newspaper from time to time to help us to provide our products and services. If we do this, we generally require those parties to protect your personal information in the same way we do.
We use a variety of physical and electronic security measures including restricting physical access to our offices and the use of firewalls and secure databases to keep personal information held on IT systems secure from misuse, loss or unauthorised use or disclosure.
Where appropriate, we will handle personal information relying on the following exemptions contained in the Privacy Act: the media exemption "Journalism" contained in section 7B(4) of the Act.
In accordance with the above Anglican Media is exempt from provisions contained within the Commonwealth Privacy Act. However, in line with best practice, staff will attempt to obtain where practicable the express consent of individuals contained within pictures being published, particularly on the web, after telling them, in as much detail as possible, about what their picture will be used for where it can be viewed and who will be able to see it.
Generally, you have a right to access personal information we hold about you. If we deny your request in some circumstances we will tell you why.
