The new Mission Areas have started meeting around Sydney Diocese and they are throwing up some interesting initiatives.

The Inner West Mission Area commissioned some Christian advertising experts to design campaign artwork for this Christmas to be shared by the churches of their region (pictured left).

Dominic Steele from the Village Church, Annandale, who was behind the idea said it made sense to offer the expertise of the members of his Christians in the Media network.

They are now making the artwork more widely available for use by other Sydney Anglican churches.

If you know of other free Christmas resources for churches put the link in a comment below.

Anglican Media is here to help you

Alternatively, churches can base their promotional on the designs we have produced for our 2010 Christmas magazine. You can even download our photo titled “boy” below to design your own flyers around the theme of “a gift from God”.

Last year, the Southern Cross team decided we could help local churches by providing a high-spec evangelistic magazine for Christmas.

The result was an A5 mini-mag called Connect to tie in with the Connect09 campaign.

Apart from the copies inserted into Southern Cross, around 40 churches ordered 15,000 additional copies to hand out to Christmas visitors.

Given last year's success, the idea is to again produce a magazine resource aimed at visitors who attend Christmas carols and church services.
Our partners this year include the Centre for Public Christianity.

Inside this year's 16 page edition you will find:

"¢ A welcome evangelistic message from Archbishop Peter Jensen
"¢ Christmas-themed article from John Dickson
"¢ Testimonies from Sydneysiders who joined local Anglican churches this year
"¢ Information on CS Lewis to help explain the Christian back-story to the latest Hollywood's latest Narnia blockbuster The Voyage of the Dawntreader.

Unfortunately, we had to close off orders at 10am Thursday morning.

However it is likely there will be over-runs and I am happy to Sydney Anglican parishes on a wait list. First orders will be mailed next week and I will be able to provide confirmation of this second round by Nov 30.

If you wish to see the full magazine, I am happy to send ministers a PDF.

Also I understand CPX have produced 7 short videos on various Christmas themes (peace, hope, gifts etc) that churches can make use of in the lead up to Christmas.

They'll all be up on their website on Monday next week for downloads.

Jeremy just asked if our artwork was available for others without the inner west text. Yes it is.

There's no copyright and you are free to do with it what you like. If you forward the link to anyone with indesign editing software they will be easily able to make changes to customise the invite for your church (in what would be little effort or cost) or use the imagery to make a banner etc (which is what we are doing).

If you don't have anyone who is able to make the changes then Melinda at www.probono.com.au is happy to do it at a cost.

CPX put out this media release:

The Centre for Public Christianity (CPX) is pleased to announce the release of ‘Christmas Snaps’ – a series of short videos available for free download and public use.

Each of the videos is under three minutes duration, and picks up on important themes that emerge from the Christmas story. They are designed for churches and ministries to use in the lead up to Christmas.

Combining vox pops and short interviews with historian Dr John Dickson, ethicist Dr Brian Rosner and cultural studies lecturer Dr Justine Toh, the videos ask:

• Why December 25th?
• What’s the point of giving gifts?
• Where’s the hope in Christmas?
• Whatever happened to ‘peace on earth’?
• Why a baby in a manger?
• What do shepherds, wise men and straw have to do with real life?
• How did Christianity become a world religion?

“The baby in the manger has been sentimentalised to the point of irrelevance today. By highlighting aspects of the Christmas story that have been lost to many of us, we aim to show how Christmas is still a much-needed source of hope," said Simon Smart (Director CPX)

All seven videos will be online for viewing and downloading at
www.publicchristianity.org on Monday 22 November 2010.

Jeremy, unfortunately I cannot find the download button for these CPX videos (which are stored in vimeo). It seems to me that we have to become a paying member of vimeo first ($60/year) in order to be able to download stuff. Is this correct?

Hi Alex I don't have any problems downloading them. But as I don't work for CPX I'm not sure how they have set up their system.

Perhaps Al or Vaughan from CPX can answer your query. (phone number is in my comment above). My understanding is that they want to make them available for free so I'm sure they will be able to get them to you somehow.
