About us 

Sydney Diocesan Services (SDS) is committed to supporting the building of God's Kingdom through the provision of a range of services to parishes and organisations in the Anglican Church Diocese of Sydney. 

About the role 

The team, consisting of 5 other people, is part of the Finance and Commercial Property division of SDS, and is responsible for the effective financial administration of both SDS and other organisations within the Diocese. This role will be largely autonomous with most of the role focusing on management accounting - finance, forecasting and budgeting, but will also provide support to other team members as needed. 

You will be responsible for the full suite of financial management of the funds allocated to you.

This will include: 

  • Maintaining the financial records for a number of entities including draft budgets, cash flows, projections and annual financial reports,
  • Prepare monthly management accounts which include profit and loss, balance sheet, cash flow statements and variance analysis as well as preparation of monthly BAS statements, 
  • Identify risks and ensuring compliance including meeting all tax obligations, 
  • Assist the annual audit process to run smoothly, 
  • Provide all round accounting support.

You will also collaborate on various strategic projects from time to time, including supporting finance system upgrades (Sun Systems). 

About you 

This role is for an experienced Acountant who is CA or CPA qualified. You may have a financial accounting background or a management accounting background with at least 5 years' experience and looking to consolidate your management accounting experience. You may have worked in a CA/CPA context or within a corporate. 

You will have a solid understanding of accounting standards and be familiar with variance analysis, forecasting, budgeting and the processes around these. A sound knowledge of Microsoft Office especially Excel in relation to data analysis, reporting, and forecasting. A knowledge of Sun Systems Financials is helpful but not mandatory. 

A capacity to foster improvements and work well with others, both internal and external stakeholders, and be administratively efficient is necessary. You will be deadline driven and enjoy a task driven role.
