About Launceston and surrounds
Located in the heart of the Tamar Valley, Launceston is the second largest urban area in Tasmania, with about 70,000 people calling it home. The city is home to the famous Cataract Gorge, and in 2021 Launceston made international headlines after being named a UNESCO City of Gastronomy for the large number of establishments offering high quality paddock to plate dining.
The Tamar Valley is home to dozens of vineyards, distilleries, berry farms, beaches and plenty of bushwalking opportunities. Cradle Mountain is two hours to the West, Hobart two hours to the South, and the pristine East Coast beaches are two hours to the East.
About the Parish
The Parish stretches from Windermere (20 minutes north of Launceston) to Evandale (20 minutes south of Launceston) and includes churches in both locations, plus the large Holy Trinity church in the Launceston CBD and the small St James Church in Franklin Village, on the fringe of Launceston. Evandale has seen significant growth since moving their service to Sunday afternoons.
In addition to weekly services at each site (fortnightly at Windermere), there is a small children’s ministry at Holy Trinity Launceston, Bible study groups, pastoral visits to retirement villages and regular outreach courses. Windermere and Evandale are largely middle-aged and ageing congregations, but with the possibilities of significant new housing developments in or near both suburbs in the near future, there is the opportunity to explore how the church might reach out to these satellite suburbs of Launceston.
The staff team currently consists of one full time Senior Associate Priest, an Honorary Associate Priest and several retired clergy. There is a part time Parish Secretary, a part time Accounts Assistant and an Organist.

About the Diocese
Bishop Richard Condie, the current Bishop, wants making disciples of Jesus to be at the core of everything we do. He also highly values training and support for church leaders – this includes each ministry leader in the Diocese having a Professional Supervisor, being in a cohort with others at the same life/ministry stage, and money and time given from the parish for professional development each year.
The current group of clergy/ministry leaders (about 80 in total) meet together twice a year and are highly supportive of each other in gospel partnership.
