Vine Church exists to connect 1,000 people to the life, love and freedom Jesus offers. We dream of seeing more people in church worshiping Jesus on Sunday than at the pub next door on a Saturday night.

Position Purpose

Vine Church is seeking to employ a godly and gifted Assistant Minister who is passionate about making disciples of Jesus and equipping the church for the work of ministry. This is a senior leadership position (Department Leader) that requires the candidate to be over the ministry and work through area and team leaders to achieve gospel outcomes.

Main Responsibilities

  • Department Leadership: Lead a department of church life (e.g. Maturity, Ministry, Membership, Magnification, or Mission) and a focus area (9.15am, 11am, or 4.30pm congregation)*
  • Oversee the ministry recruitment and leadership development pipeline in the department/congregation to resource the ministry with servant-hearted volunteers.
  • Champion the outcome of your department across the church.
  • Oversee events that facilitate the effective operation of the department/congregation. E.g. congregation weekend away, leadership huddles, training sessions, etc.
  • Oversee processes and systems that facilitate the effective operation of the department/congregation.
  • Ministry Training: Training student ministers, MTS and ministry interns.
  • Preaching: Preaching and teaching the Bible.
  • Other responsibilities as required in working in a team environment.
  • This department and focus area will depend on the gifts of the successful candidate and the needs of the church at the time of employment.

Ministry competencies

  • Theologically-minded and able to show evidence of teaching the Bible faithfully and transformatively.
  • Ability to think biblically and explain the gospel in a clear and Christ-centred way.
  • Able to explain the gospel to unbelievers in a clear and compelling way.
  • Passionate about evangelism and is experienced in seeing people converted and established in the faith.
  • Approachable and warm personality.
  • Determined to see people connected, growing and equipped for a life in the family of God.

Leadership competencies

  • Proven ability in establishing, training and leading teams and their leaders. 

  • Ability to lead productive team meetings and training nights.
  • Clear, humble and an engaging leadership style, calling people to make sacrifices for the cause of Christ.
  • Excellence in professional skills such as clear written and verbal communication, time-management, organisation, and systems thinking.
  • Ability to negotiate conflict between parties.
  • Experience in running ministry systems and event with a team of staff or volunteers.
  • Willing to work alongside others in a team and under the Lead Pastor.
  • Willing to commit to the vision and mission and join Vine Church.


  • Experience in in a professional vocation and is a good cultural fit with the inner city and the people of Vine Church.
  • Completed or currently undertaking higher education in theology and ministry.
  • More than five years experience in a similar role.
  • Experience in an outcome driven ministry team.

Remuneration is provided in accordance with the Anglican Church of Sydney’s guidelines for stipend and allowances (including housing, travel, hospitality, books, computer, and conferences). This can be discussed with the Lead Pastor at the time of application.
