Position Overview

Minto Anglican Church is seeking a passionate and gospel-driven Mandarin Minister to lead and grow our 11.15am Mandarin-speaking congregation. This part-time position (3 days per week) focuses on Bible teaching, pastoral care, evangelism, discipleship, and leadership development.

The Mandarin Minister will work closely with the Senior Minister and staff team to implement the vision of Minto Anglican Church and help Mandarin speakers come to faith, grow as disciples, and serve Jesus in our church and beyond.

There is potential for the position to become full-time if the successful applicant is able to raise additional financial support.

Key Responsibilities

Service Oversight

  • Provide spiritual leadership and oversight for the 11.15am Mandarin Service.
  • Build a culture of prayer, Bible teaching, and community life.
  • Meet regularly with a congregational leadership team to help set direction and encourage healthy growth.

Preaching and Teaching

  • Preach regularly at the 11.15am Mandarin Service:
    • At least two Sundays per month.
  • Preach according to the church-wide preaching calendar set by the Senior Minister.
  • Teach faithfully, clearly, and contextually to build up the congregation.

Pastoral Care

  • Provide pastoral support to congregation members, including:
  • Visitation of elderly, sick, and homebound members.
  • Offering prayer, counselling, and encouragement through different life stages and challenges.
  • Welcoming and following up newcomers to integrate them into the life of the church.

Evangelism

  • Develop and implement an evangelistic strategy specifically for the 11.15am Mandarin Service, aligned with the wider Parish Evangelistic Strategy.
  • Lead outreach initiatives and encourage a culture of personal evangelism among congregation members.
  • Discipleship and Small Groups
  • Develop a clear discipleship pathway to move people from newcomers to mature, serving members.

Oversee the small group ministry:

  • Recruit, train, and support group leaders.
  • Establish and grow groups as needed.
  • Ensure groups are centred on Scripture, prayer, fellowship, and mission.
  • Teamwork and Administration
  • Work collaboratively with the Senior Minister and broader church staff team.
  • Participate in parish-wide events, training, and planning activities.
  • Communicate clearly with the Wardens regarding administrative matters as required.

Working Hours

  • 3 days per week (including Sundays).
  • Some evening or occasional overnight ministry activities may be required.
  • Flexibility is expected to meet ministry needs.

Remuneration

The remuneration package will be in line with the guidelines set by the Sydney Anglican Diocese. This includes:

  • A stipend at the diocesan standard rate
  • An MDBA (Ministers Discretionary Benefits Account) allowance to cover travel, utilities, and ministry-related expenses
  • Superannuation contributions at the applicable rate

Details of the full package will be discussed with candidates and tailored appropriately based on experience and circumstances.
