Location: Cobbitty, NSW
Date advertised: 4th July 2021
Job Type: Part time, Permanent
Closing Date: 15th August 2021
St Paul’s Anglican Church is located just north of Camden in the beautiful village of Cobbitty.
Founded in 1827, the Church has four historic buildings and a long history of gospel ministry. With the influx of people to Macarthur region, St Paul’s has grown steadily over the last 15 years. It is slowly transitioning from a small village church into a mid-size suburban one.
We currently run two Sunday services:
9am traditional Anglican Prayer Book service with hymns played on the organ and a small choir. This service attracts around 65 adults per week, 2/3 of whom are over the age of 70.
5pm contemporary service with a band and accompanying children’s program. This service attracts around 45 adults and 30 teens/kids each week.
The staff team consists of Rev. David Barrie (Rector since 2014); Leah Dyason (Youth and Children’s Minister since 2015); and Cathy Ware (Office Admin 1 day per week).
We are blessed with a very active and welcoming senior’s fellowship which has strong links with the local community. With 70 over 70’s on the parish roll, and a large population of seniors in the area, we believe a dedicated Senior’s Minister would be a strategic addition to our staff team.
The role has three areas of focus:
- Strengthen our senior’s fellowship – This may involve home visits, a monthly mid-week communion service and organising some social gatherings.
- Strengthen our senior’s outreach – This will involve finding ways to connect our church community with the many seniors in the area.
- Some preaching – We are looking for a competent preacher who can preach roughly six Sundays per year.
The strategy for achieving these objectives will be worked out over time and in consultation. If the Parish continues to grow, and the need is evident, this role has the potential to increase to 2-days per week in the near future. Stipend and allowances will be paid according to the Diocesan Remuneration Guidelines.
The role will suit a committed evangelical Christian with a strong knowledge of the Bible, a proven ability to preach, a friendly disposition and a passion for helping people grow in their faith. Anglican ordination would be a bonus but is not essential. Retirees are welcome to apply.
