The Anglican Diocese of Bathurst covers about a third of NSW, stretching from the Blue Mountains to the Queensland border. The regional church office is in Bathurst, assisting the region’s 28 parishes to serve their communities with the life-giving hope of Jesus.

About the Role

Motivated by Jesus’ love, the diocese is committed to a safe environment for parishioners and the wider community. This commitment includes compliance with NSW WHS legislation. We are seeking an enthusiastic and organised individual to join our team, in a part-time capacity as a Work Health and Safety (WHS) Coordinator to assist our parishes in meeting this important obligation.

In this role, you will be responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining a safe and healthy work environment across our parishes. Note that whilst there are similar objectives, this role is separate from responsibilities for implementing the diocese’s safe ministry policies and screening requirements.


  • Develop, implement, and monitor WHS policies, programs and procedures, in accordance with NSW WHS legislation.
  • Conduct WHS risk assessments and audits to identify and address potential hazards.
  • Provide WHS training and induction programs for staff and volunteers.
  • Investigate WHS incidents and implement corrective actions.
  • Maintain WHS records and documentation.
  • Stay up to date with WHS legislation and best practices.
  • Liaise with relevant stakeholders, including staff, volunteers, and regulatory authorities.
  • Report to the Business Manager on work undertaken and issues arising.   

Selection Criteria


  • Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety or equivalent qualification.
  • Excellent understanding of NSW WHS legislation.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and organisational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • A current Working With Children Check (WWCC) or willingness to obtain one.
  • Current drivers’ licence, access to a roadworthy car
  • Willingness to travel across the diocese, with occasional overnight stays.  


  • Experience working in a WHS role within the education or community sector.
  • Committed Christian, active involvement in church.
  • Willingness to be located in or near one of the major centres of Bathurst, Orange, or Dubbo.
