Moore College is seeking expressions of interest in a part-time (3 days per week) teaching position lecturing in New Testament (including Koinē Greek). The appointment would be for a fixed period of three years.
Moore College is an evangelical theological college based in Newtown, an inner-city suburb of Sydney. The College prepares men and women for a lifetime of Christian ministry and mission through immersive biblical and theological education conducted in the context of a Christian community. It is concerned not simply with the communication of knowledge but also with deepening Christian convictions, shaping Christian character and developing the skills necessary for an effective ministry of prayer and the word of God.
At the centre of the College’s academic program is its 4 year full-time residential BD. However, it also offers an Advanced Diploma, which is available part-time as well as full-time, online certificate and diploma courses, and suite of postgraduate courses culminating in its own PhD. The College currently has around 400 degree and diploma students and an additional 2,500 students are enrolled in its online programs.
Moore College is the theological college of the Anglican Diocese of Sydney. The Archbishop of Sydney is the Chair of its Governing Board and its Council is elected by the diocesan synod. The College and its faculty serve the mission of the diocese in a variety of ways. However, the College’s own mission reaches out beyond the Diocese to other denominations and a wide variety of other ministry settings. A lecturer at Moore participates in the College community primarily as a pastor/mentor and teacher. This part-time position will involve both academic and pastoral responsibilities with some administrative responsibilities. As it is a part-time position, there is no requirement for the successful applicant to reside on one of the college campuses.
The successful candidate will have
- strong evangelical and reformed theological convictions
- a strong commitment to the College’s published values and mission as well as the professional standards required by the Anglican Diocese of Sydney (Faithfulness in Service)
- a PhD or equivalent in the field of New Testament
- an ability to teach at a tertiary level within the field of New Testament (Greek, New Testament texts, New Testament theology)
- proven personal and pastoral skills
- demonstrable research ability
In addition, the successful candidate will be ordained and/or able to be licensed by the Archbishop of Sydney to minister in the Diocese of Sydney.
The successful candidate should be available to commence duties at the beginning of first semester in 2021.
Teaching experience in undergraduate and/or adult education contexts and previous pastoral ministry experience will be an advantage.
