We are seeking a caring and Christ centered Justice Chaplain competent in pastoral ministry and compelled to make a difference in the lives of our men.

The Long Bay Correctional Complex is a maximum to minimum security facility, located 14 km south of Sydney's central business district and is needing a full-time Chaplain.

About the role:

This is a Permanent full-time position based at Matraville reporting to the Justice & Health Chaplaincy Manager at Anglicare. You will be well supported in this position and will be part of the Justice Chaplaincy team at Anglicare.

In this role you will have the opportunity to communicate the Christian message clearly through conversations, bible study and chapel services.

Building supportive relationships with other Correctional Services Chaplains of other denominations and faiths will be an important aspect of this role. It is also encouraged to foster relationships with our local churches and Christian ministry organisations.

About you:

This position will suit a compassionate and resilient person who has significant pastoral experience and suited to working in a correctional Centre environment. You will ideally be a highly motivated and caring person, experienced in pastoral ministry (ideally in a Justice context), or be keen to develop an ability to minister to men in prison.

Skills & experience:

  • Completed theological studies (Degree or Diploma course).
  • Eligible to hold a license issued by the Anglican Archbishop of the Sydney Diocese.
  • Empathetic, non-judgmental and caring pastoral skills
  • Ability to clearly communicate and teach the Bible.
  • Completed APC or CPE course (required to be completed in the first 12 months of employment if not yet completed).
  • Proven experience in ministry and compassionate pastoral care.
  • Strong communication and relationship building skills.

You must be able to pass all Corrective services security checks and meet the requirements to be licensed by the Archbishop for ministry in the Diocese of Sydney.
