Assistant Ministers (X4)

Church Hill Anglican
Location: Sydney City and Millers Point, NSW
Date advertised: 17th July 2022
Job Type: Full time
Closing Date: When ready

Dear Colleagues and friends,

Church Hill is a city church, with two centres, in the northern part of Sydney’s Central Business District (and includes Millers Point and Barangaroo). God has placed us here, and there are endless opportunities for Gospel work. We believe that the time is right: all of us are waking up from Covid and ready for what God has next for us.

And we want you to consider being a part of it.

Church Hill Anglican has several positions to fill in the coming months, and we are seeking expressions of interest for each of them, or a combination of more than one.

To this end, we are inviting people whose interest is piqued by one or more of the following roles to contact our office to secure a detailed job description for each position available.

We will be advertising these roles separately in the coming weeks. In the meantime, are you interested in seeing what jobs are available in our Church?

The successful applicants will need to be an evangelical Christian, able to teach, good with people, pastorally able, with the ability to grow a ministry or congregation through mission and discipleship. They will need to be able to create and lead teams.

Church Hill seeks to ‘fill the City with Christ’s Gospel’ from our two centres: St Philip’s (York Street in the City) and Holy Trinity (the Garrison Church in Miller’s Point).

If any of these interests you feel free to contact the office or pass this link on to someone you know.

1. A Full Time Assistant Minister (Congregation Minister)

We are looking for a full time Assistant Minister who loves the Lord, is gospel-hearted, can reach the lost, preach Christ, teach Scripture, and apply the Gospel to one or more of our congregations at Church Hill. The more likely role we are offering will be the minister of the Garrison Church. But we are also open for the right person to take on the leadership and development of one or two of the St Philip’s congregations.  An ordained person would be valuable, with the possibility of assisting in our mission to Wedding Couples.

2. A Part Time Assistant Minister (Kids and Youth)

Perhaps you are also good with kids and youth? Or maybe this is your main gift? We are looking for someone whose abiding passion is to share their love for Jesus Christ with kids and youth. We are looking for someone who can create and lead teams of lay people to disciple and teach the children and youth of our church. We are hoping for someone who can grow this important group in our church, especially through mission. This would most likely mean being involved in our local school, Fort Street Primary.

A Part Time Assistant Minister (Music)

Are you a person who loves to lead in music in the praise of God? Perhaps you perceive that you have the gifts to lead teams of wonderful volunteers to enable the congregations of Church Hill to express their love for the Lord in song? We are seeking someone who will not just play on Sundays, but be able to pastor and develop teams of musicians, protecting them from burnout, and enabling them to serve. We are looking for someone with fresh eyes to see what we are doing, imagine a new way forward and to lead us to the place God has for us.

A Full or Part Time Assistant Minister (Evangelism and City Ministry)

Maybe you have a deep heart for the lost in the Central Business District of Sydney? You know how to ‘knock on doors’ and meet people who don’t yet believe and lead them to the Lord. We are looking for someone who might be able to scale that gift and enable others who work in the city to reach their friends with the Gospel. The successful candidate would need to be able to connect with city workers, be respected by them, lead teams of Church Hill members into the city, create smaller communities of people who will read the Bible and come to know God. The successful candidate might also create a new midweek forum with seekers and those who want to help them.

We imagine that there are some talented people who may want to be involved in more than one of these roles and seeing them side by side might allow some potential candidates to come alive with interest. We are wondering if God is prompting you.

There can be no harm in contacting our office to read the specific Job ads for each of these roles. By emailing, you are expressing interest by examining in detail what each of these roles might look like. Every email will be treated confidentially.

You could contact the Rector, Justin Moffatt at for a brief conversation if that would help too.
