The Sydney Diocesan Archives of the Anglican Church Diocese of Sydney seeks an Assistant Archivist
- 3 days per week
- 2 year fixed term contract
- Onsite, and possibility of hybrid office/remote in due course
- An opportunity to work with one of the most significant archival collections in Australia documenting the development of the Anglican faith in the Colony of NSW
About us
Our team at the Sydney Anglican Offices are dedicated to supporting the growth of God’s Kingdom by providing valued services to churches and organisations across the Anglican Diocese of Sydney.
The Sydney Diocesan Archives is part of the Sydney Diocesan Registry, within the Parish & Technology Services Division.
The Sydney Diocesan Archives provides information storage and retrieval services to the staff of the Anglican Church Diocese of Sydney, including diocesan, parish, and agency staff. We also provide research access to academic and commissioned researchers.
Our Collection Policy includes those records created by the offices and officers of the Diocese of Sydney in pursuit of their day-to-day activities. The collection dates principally from the creation of the Diocese of Australia in 1835, although we do hold some records dating back to the late 1700s.
The collection is entirely analogue so far. Our collection is growing rapidly, so we are planning for some temporary offsite storage, and to build a new repository on a new site.
The Sydney Diocesan Archives uses the content management systems Recollect and Archive Server.
We have 1.5 million entries on Ancestry.com through our on-going mass digitisation project of church registers. We are planning to launch a Recollect website and platform, to develop a digitisation program, and to build a Digital Diocesan Archive.
