Community Chaplain – Glenn Innes and Guyra
The Community Chaplain is an Anglicare initiative. This Maximum Term part-time, 3 days per week position is a two-year contract (with an option to renew).
About the role (not limited to):
Community Chaplain- ‘providing Help for today and Hope for tomorrow’.
The community chaplain is set aside for generous kindness and Gospel friendship with the marginalised to point them to Jesus and into church community.
Therefore, they will have an outward focused role into the local community, seeking to bless individuals and the community, by both meeting their physical, emotional and social need but also by seeking to meet their spiritual need, drawing individuals to Christ and into the community of faith.
The role would require a person with a strong Christian faith and a capacity to build relationships, address needs, engage constructively with other agencies involved in the local community, develop the capacity of the person(s) to live a full life while being well-capable of sharing the gospel with people.
The person in this role would need to be able to agree with the vision, mission and values of both Anglicare and local Anglican Church.
This position will suit a person of compassion and resilience who has significant pastoral experience and the ability to engage well with children and families. You must be a highly motivated and caring person with the ability to set clear boundaries.
The successful applicant will be able to communicate the Christian message clearly through conversations and able to work in a context of great social need.
The position will work across Glen Innes and Guyra parishes in conjunction with the Vicars of these two churches.
Skills, knowledge and experience:
- Theological studies (highly desirable but not essential)
- Experience in children and family ministry
- Ability to be culturally sensitive.
- Experience in social service or community development
- Ability to clearly communicate the Bible to all ages
- Completed Anglicare’s IPC or APC course (required to be completed in the first 12 months of employment if not yet completed).
- Proven experience in ministry and pastoral care
- Strong communication and relationship building skills
- Valid Working with Children Check
- COVID-19 vaccination is a mandatory requirement unless assessed exempt
