Covenant Christian School is seeking applications from senior education leaders to join its Senior Executive Team in the position of Deputy Principal (P-12) - a new position in the school.

It is essential that you have previous leadership experience at a Senior Executive level, preferably gained in a Christian school.

ROLE OVERVIEW

As members of the Senior Executive, you will be responsible for implementing the Vision and Mission of the school, across the school, and for showing Godly leadership not only to staff, but to the whole school community by the way you relate to students and parents.

You will be required to provide strong support and close collaboration with the Principal, deputising for them when necessary. Together you will move the School’s Strategic Plan from paper to practice within the school community, ensuring direction and focus to the school’s longer-term objectives.

As the educational operations manager, you will provide strategic leadership and management, particularly through your direct supervision of the Heads of School (HoS).

You will also have oversight of, and will liaise closely with, other senior staff. You are expected to instill trust, confidence and cohesion across all staff teams as you look to ensure smooth, positive and efficient day-to-day functioning of the school.

Working with the Director of Teaching and Learning (DoTaL) and HoS, you will administer and oversee NAPLAN assessments and the annual HSC. 

You will take responsibility for compliance with NESA registration and accreditation in relation to the educational programs of the school. You will also ensure adherence to specific oversight of educational compliance and risk management. 

Working in collaboration with the Business Manager you will have ICT oversight as it relates to educational programs. You will also work with the Principal and Business Manager to develop and ensure adherence to the annual educational operations budget.

With support from the HR Manager, you will have oversight of staff HR matters, making determinations with fairness and accuracy.

In your responsibility to students, you will ensure a culture exists across Prep to Year-12 that encourages students to flourish in accordance with the school’s vision and mission. 

Working with the Director of Student Wellbeing (DoSW) and HoS, you will also oversee student discipline and wellbeing systems of the school.

In your responsibility to parents, you will oversee a strong set of Parent Partnership programs to support our community, in close consultation with the HoS.

It is expected that you will consult widely regarding best practice, liaising with other schools, leading task forces, attending and presenting workshops at conferences, and will be an active CEN member, contributing to the wider community of Christian Educators in this area.

LOCATION

Located on 3.5 hectares in leafy Belrose in NSW, Covenant Christian School is 19 kilometres north-east of the Sydney central business district in the local government area of Northern Beaches Council.

With around 940 enrolled students across Prep to Year-12, we currently employ around 150 full-time and part-time staff, plus further casual staff, with all staff being active participants in their local Christian churches.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES (To be addressed in the Application Letter)

  • Oversight of educational operations for the efficient day-to-day functioning of the whole school (P-12) aligned to the school's Christian culture.
  • In collaboration with the Principal and Business Manager, ensure adherence to specific oversight of educational compliance and risk management including organisational policies and procedures, child protection investigations and WHS practices.
  • Promote collaborative relationships between teachers, students and parents.
  • Oversee ICT developments as they relate to educational programs for the school.
  • Develop, implement and annually evaluate the Deputy Principal's Annual Action Plan (AAP) in consultation with the Principal.

ADDITIONAL CORE RESPONIBILITES

  • Deputise and take delegation for the Principal as required.
  • Member of Senior Executive Team providing strategic leadership and operational management in accordance with the school's Vision and Mission.
  • Instill trust, confidence and cohesion across staff teams.
  • Ensure alignment with the school's Strategic Plan in the area of educational operations.
  • Oversee a culture that enables Prep to Year-12 students to flourish in accordance with the school’s vision and mission, in collaboration with your Heads of School (HoS).
  • Strong collaborative working relationship with the Principal to implement the Strategic Plan into the community.
  • Support and supervision of HoS.
  • Assist the Principal and Business Manager to develop the annual educational operations budget.
  • In consultation with the Director of School Administration (DoSA) and HoS, to oversee the administration of NAPLAN and HSC to ensure their smooth implementation.
  • Work with the DoTaL and HoS, to ensure compliance with NESA Registration and Accreditation requirements.
  • In collaboration with the DoSW and HoS, to oversee discipline and welfare systems of the school, including implementation of the Child Protection Policy and procedures.
  • Commitment to your own professional learning and in making contributions to the broader Christian Education community, including willingness to undertake post-graduate studies as appropriate.
  • Oversee child protection investigations and serious child protection matters.
  • In consultation with the HR Manager, to provide oversight of staff HR support. This includes: determining staff duties, loads and allowances; staff employment and induction; staff observation, performance improvement and management; grievance management and staff wellbeing support. To determine these each with fairness and accuracy.
  • Active involvement and attendance in a range of school events and activities

KEY REQUIREMENTS

  • Committed Christian of a reformed evangelical persuasion, actively involved in the life of their local church and with a strong passion for Christian community.
  • Able and willing to sincerely affirm the School’s Statement of Belief modelling a lifestyle that reflects Christian practice and these beliefs in their everyday work and life.
  • An experienced educational leader in Christian Education.
  • Qualifications and experience commensurate with this Senior Executive position.
  • Inspirational leadership with strong management skills and a track record of success in managing people and in working cohesively with others. 
  • Ability to instill trust, confidence and cohesion.
  • Efficient and organised in overseeing the day-to-day running of the school and in the support and supervision of the HoS.
  • Strong working knowledge of NESA Registration and Accreditation requirements, plus a clear understanding of the Registration and Accreditation of Non-Government Schools (RANGS) and to implement RANGS into the day to day-running of the school.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills with an ability to communicate effectively and sensitively across a broad range of audiences throughout the school community and within the Christian Education Network.
  • Skills and experience in conflict management and resolution as it relates to staff, students and parents.
  • Experience in managing high-level student discipline and welfare matters.
  • Ability to be solution-focused and objective in your problem solving and decision making whilst adhering to sound Christian principles and being sensitive to the needs of others.
  • An appreciation for, and understanding of, the unique developmental needs of students and the significance of spiritual, social and emotional learning to personal growth, wellbeing, academic engagement and life both outside and after school.
  • Commitment to your own professional learning and in making contributions to the broader Christian Education community, including willingness to undertake post-graduate studies as appropriate.
  • A strong working knowledge of child protection, including investigation and reporting practices, and a commitment to develop and maintain a child-safe culture.
  • Working understanding of school budgetary considerations.
  • A strong working knowledge of ICT as it relates to educational programs. A working knowledge of Canvas and Edumate is highly desirable.
  • Understanding of HR management practices including employment and performance processes, Awards, grievance handling and staff wellbeing support.
  • Able to provide a valid Working with Children Check.
  • Commitment to your own professional learning and in making contributions to the broader Christian Education community, including willingness to undertake post-graduate studies as appropriate.
