Moore Theological College Council is seeking expressions of interest in a pastoral and teaching position as Dean of Women.

This is a full-time faculty position (though the College may consider the possibility of a part-time arrangement).

The College

Moore College is a reformed evangelical theological college based in Newtown, an inner-city suburb of Sydney.

The College prepares men and women for a lifetime of Christian ministry and mission through immersive biblical and theological education conducted in the context of a Christian community. It is concerned not simply with the communication of knowledge but also with deepening Christian convictions, shaping Christian character and developing the skills necessary for an effective ministry of prayer and the word of God.

At the centre of the College’s academic program is its 4-year full-time degree. However, it also offers an Advanced Diploma, which is available part-time as well as full-time, online certificate and diploma courses, and suite of postgraduate courses culminating in its own PhD. The College currently has around 400 degree and diploma students and an additional 2,500 students are enrolled in its online programs.

Moore College is the theological college of the Anglican Diocese of Sydney. The Archbishop of Sydney is the Chair of its Governing Board and its Council is elected by the diocesan synod. The College and its faculty serve the mission of the diocese in a variety of ways. However, the College’s own mission reaches out beyond the Diocese to other denominations and a wide variety of other ministry settings.

The Position

Each member of the Moore College faculty participates in the College community in a variety of ways but essentially they serve as a pastor/mentor and teacher. This particular position is primarily a pastoral role, but it also involves both academic and administrative responsibilities.

In this position you will:

  • oversee pastoral care for the female students in the College
  • enhance and support community life for students living on campus
  • mentor and provide support for students
  • lead and supervise a team of female chaplains
  • supervise women’s chapel
  • prepare and deliver lectures and conduct tutorials in Christian ministry
  • conduct your own research or research in collaboration with others on the faculty
  • complete a range of other responsibilities

The successful candidate will have:

  • active Christian faith and involvement in a local Christian congregation
  • strong evangelical and reformed theological convictions (with special reference to their expression in the 39 Articles of Religion)
  • clear and strong commitment to the College’s mission, ethos and published values, as well as the professional standards required by the Anglican Diocese of Sydney (Faithfulness in Service)
  • proven high-level personal and pastoral skills
  • at least five years of pastoral experience
  • a proven ability to lead and manage a team
  • a first degree in theology (BTh, BD, MDiv or equivalent)
  • an ability to teach at a tertiary level and a potential for research

In addition, the successful candidate will be or will be able to be licensed or authorised by the Archbishop of Sydney to minister in the Diocese of Sydney.

The successful candidate should be available to commence at the beginning of first semester in 2023.
