Seeking a mission-minded, detail-oriented Assistant Pastor to help reach the Coast for Jesus
Overview
Ulladulla Anglican Church is here for Jesus, here for the Coast. We are an evangelical Anglican church in the Diocese of Sydney, located on the incredible NSW South Coast. We are one of Sydney’s largest parishes in terms of geography. Our mission field runs from Bendalong in the north, all the way down to Bawley Point in the south, taking in 20+ towns and villages along the way!
We are looking for an Assistant Pastor who will bring with them a passion for the Gospel, for Jesus and for the lost; ideally having strong organisational and implementation skills which will complement our Senior Pastor's vision and leadership.
A strong applicant will have a heart for the whole ecosystem of the church, leading with Gospel-driven outcomes in mind, in order that we might make deeper disciples in ever-increasing numbers across the South Coast.
Our ideal candidate will be a graduate or early-career pastor with a passion for seeing the Gospel transform lives and communities. Whilst offering opportunities for ministry across the life and breadth of church, this role will have a particular focus on helping mobilise our members to Serve in Community.
Key aptitudes
Our ideal candidate will be able to:
- Teach: In partnership with the senior pastor, assist in teaching ministry across the life of our church. This may include preaching in the Sunday gathering, as well as teaching across various events, gatherings incl. Youth Group, outreach into local schools, church-based and special events, etc.
- Train & equip: Lead the recruiting, onboarding, training, deployment, development and oversight of church members serving in the ministry teams of our church. Have an eye towards building a system where godly christian leaders are spotted, nurtured and developed.
- Plan & implement: In partnership with the senior pastor and key leaders, assist in planning and implementation of strategic direction; with special focus on pastoral care and integration of members, as well as helping members to connect with serving effectively. A strong candidate is someone who would be able to break down big-picture ministry goals into actionable steps and then see them through to completion (without necessarily having to do it all).
Essential qualifications
- Evangelical conviction and a passion for Gospel ministry
- Theological training
- Openness and eligibility for ordination (Deacon) in the Anglican Diocese of Sydney (current MT&D ordination candidates and non-candidates both welcome)
- Excellent organisational and communication skills
- A team player with demonstrated ability to work well in a team environment
Desirable qualities
- Experience in project management or significant leadership roles
- Proven ability to implement and manage systems
- Strong preaching and teaching skills
This role offers a unique opportunity to work in partnership with a young rector (ordained Anglican from an FIEC background), working together to reach the women and men, girls and boys of the NSW South Coast with the good news of Jesus.
Our churches gather three times on a Sunday: We have a 9am all-ages service in Ulladulla, a more traditional service at 11am in Milton, and a small 4pm afternoon gathering in Ulladulla.
Our congregations reflect our wider community, including the very oldest and youngest; long-time locals as well as people who are brand-new to Australia.
We also minister in partnership with a number of experienced retired Anglican ministers, who greatly bless us with their ability to preach and serve in a number of ways.
We are looking for a 'finisher' - someone who not only starts projects with enthusiasm but sees them
through to completion with an eye for detail and reliability.
We welcome applications from both male and female candidates. The specific shape of the role can be tailored to the successful applicant's gifts within our church's complementarian framework.
Compensation: Stipend/salary will be according to Sydney Diocesan recommendations based on qualifications and experience. Housing or housing allowance will be provided.
Join us in our mission to reach the South Coast with the good news of Jesus!
