Location: Christchurch, New Zealand
Location type: On-Site
Date advertised: 2nd October 2026
Job Type: Full time, Permanent
Closing Date: ASAP

Our context
New Zealand is one of the most secular nations in the Western world. In the 2023 census, for the first time, more than half the population reported having no religion, while those identifying as Christian fell to under a third — part of a steady decline of roughly one percent every year.
As churches have shrunk and closed, too few gospel workers are being raised up to reach a country that needs Jesus: the harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Yet the gospel has lost none of its power, and many New Zealanders remain open to it.
Latimer belongs to the Church of Confessing Anglicans Aotearoa New Zealand, a diocese formed in 2019 to hold fast to the supreme authority of the Bible when the wider Anglican church departed from it. We are a small but confident and growing part of Christ's church, in a country that urgently needs to hear of Jesus — and we are praying for gospel-hearted leaders to join the work.
About Us
Latimer is a growing church of over 750 people gathering across four Sunday congregations in Christchurch, with one guiding vision: growing to the glory of God.
We hold the Bible as our supreme authority and are committed to the priority of the word and prayer, the equipping of every member for ministry, and reaching Christchurch and beyond with the good news of Jesus.
You will be joining a staff team of 10 (along with out ministry apprentices) who work collaboratively to equip, train, and empower our congregation to participate in the work of the gospel.
In late 2026 we move into a new purpose-built building in a new location — a significant moment as we seek to make and grow disciples of Jesus and raise up gospel workers for the years ahead.
The opportunity
We are looking for a full-time Pastor / Ministry Leader to join our staff team. This is a significant, church-wide role, and we will shape it around the gifts and experience of the person appointed.
Depending on your strengths, it could centre on leading our mid-week Bible study groups and deepening our life of Word and prayer; on leading evangelism and mission across the church; or on the pastoral oversight of a congregation — and often a combination of these. The precise shape will be worked out together with the Senior Minister.
The person we are looking for
Above all, we are looking for a godly, gospel-hearted man. You will be:
A conservative, Reformed evangelical — committed to the supreme authority of Scripture and the priority of the ministry of the Word and prayer.
A model of godly life and doctrine — prayerfully dependent on God, humble, servant-hearted, and generous in spirit.
A Bible teacher – able to contribute to the preaching and teaching ministry of the church.
A leader who develops others — someone who equips, trains, and releases people to use their gifts, rather than doing ministry alone.
Outward-facing in vision — sharing our longing to see more people in Christchurch and beyond come to know Jesus.
A collaborative team player — flexible and generous, able to work within a shared-leadership staff team.
Experienced — with preferably three years’ full-time ministry experience, and able to articulate a clear ministry philosophy and understand their own fit and gifting.
