St George Christian School (SGCS) is a K-12 Co-educational School with a reputation for strong academic outcomes, intentional pastoral care and a disciplined and warm environment. Our devoted staff, strive to make a difference in the life of their students.
The School is based across two campuses in the St George region of Sydney. Our size (dual stream from K-6 and triple stream from 7-12) positions us well to know each student and enables the provision of a breadth of subject choices and co-curricular activities.
At SGCS we recognise that young adolescents are negotiating a highly complex journey from childhood to adolescence – a journey that will have a significant impact on their learning, social development and mental health. We have therefore designed an educational environment, Middle School, where a strong sense of being known is paramount. Our Home Room teachers understand that relationship is a powerful teaching strategy and foundational to empowering young students to know truth and then to impact the world around them.
In your role as an English Teacher you will be expected to:
- Teach English and one other subject as the core academic subjects for your Year 7 Homeroom class
- Be grounded in the diverse characteristics and needs of young people and in the teaching strategies necessary to engage them.
- Provide pastoral care for students in your Home Room
- Engineer teaching experiences that are authentic, connected to real life experience, challenging and engaging
- Differentiate your teaching to provide for the broad range of students in your classroom
Beyond your Home Room responsibilities, you will also teach English to other year groups from Year 7 – 12. All teachers are expected to be fully involved in the total school program, with other duties and responsibilities appropriate to a Middle School teacher in a K-12 Christian school. Salary and conditions are consistent with the NSW Christian School Teaching Staff Multi-Enterprise Agreement 2021.
The appointment to this position will take effect from Term 1, 2022.
