St Swithun’s Anglican Church is seeking to hire a part time worker or student minister to work in Cross-Cultural Chinese ministry. The role is envisaged to be the equivalent of 2 days per week, which can be varied by negotiation and both men and women encouraged to apply.
This ministry includes a contemporary Family Service designed specifically for a cross-cultural congregation that would like to worship, praise and pray to God in English, with a simultaneous Mandarin translation using a headphone system. The goal is to create a welcoming space where families of different generations and ethnic background can come together to worship and engage with God’s word. The service starts at 10.30am each Sunday and attracts between 80 to 100 worshippers from diverse cultural backgrounds, with approximately 15% of Chinese ethnic origin.
The ministry also includes a weekly Thursday English conversation class and a Friday Mandarin Bible study group during the school term.
The successful candidate will be a committed Christian with some ministry experience (volunteer or paid). They will be expected to attend the English conversation class, participate in Sunday services, and assist with the Mandarin ministry. Theological education – completed or in progress – would be an advantage. This position will work closely with the senior minister and the Mandarin ministry team.
