About the role

We are looking for a Disability Support Worker for Emet House to join the team and assist the House Manager. Emet House is based in Strathfield but the role may involve shifts in other suburbs (North Shore or Bexley). Emet is a SILC house, click for more info.

The role involves:

  • Supporting residents to complete their daily living tasks and progress with individual goals
  • Driving residents to their weekly programs and social engagements (various suburbs within the Sydney region)
  • Engaging in activities which extend their skills, interests & therapeutic needs
  • Managing behavioural needs
  • Supporting residents to participate in the community (e.g shopping, public events) and extend their interests via accessing the community
  • Supporting residents in their personal care
  • Providing occasional overnight support on sleeping shifts in the house

Essential criteria

  • Committed to or supportive of the Christian ethos and Vision of Emet House
  • Some experience with disability
  • Committed to person-centred support, always upholding their dignity
  • Available for a range of shift times (Morning, Afternoon/Evening & Overnight shifts)
  • Computer literate and able to complete online shift reports and online training
  • Able to develop a warm and positive relationship with the residents
  • Committed to supporting the residents in developing independent living skills
  • A team player – communicative, punctual, reliable, flexible & able to complete tasks
  • Valid Australian Drivers Licence and have access to a vehicle with comprehensive insurance
  • Proactive and committed to implementing plans, strategies and procedures
  • Able to respond positively to feedback, keen to develop, & participate in ongoing training
  • Covid vaccinations up to date, First Aid Cert, NDIS Worker Check or willing to obtain

Desirable criteria

  • Administration experience
  • Willing and able to swim with residents for exercise and enjoyment
  • Supervisor or management experience
  • Qualification in Disability, Nursing, Mental Health or Welfare
