Read Rector
St John's Anglican Church
Location: Gordon, NSW
Date advertised: 14th March 2020
Job Type: Full time
Closing Date: asap

The beautiful and historic St John the Evangelist Gordon is a parish in the Anglo-Catholic tradition. It was founded in 1872 as the mother church of the North Shore. In our regular services we use the Book of Common Prayer (1662), A Prayer Book for Australia and contemporary liturgy.

The parish is well-connected within the suburb of Gordon and the broader Ku-ring-gai community. With the changing demographics of the area, St John’s has established a Chinese ministry as an integrated part of our congregation. The Rector is well-supported by a mix of paid and volunteer positions covering pastoral care, music, premises, outreach and parish administration. A highly successful Op Shop is run by volunteers.

Following the elevation of our Rector, Fr Keith Dalby, to be Bishop of the Murray in South Australia, we seek a Parish Priest to uphold and continue the traditions of St John’s while working to build and guide our various communities. He will:

  • Provide leadership and teaching in the Anglo-Catholic tradition
  • Support the Choral tradition of the Parish
  • Engage with all the ministries, activities and groups of the Parish
  • Provide pastoral care to all, particularly the many elderly parishioners
  • Engage constructively and intelligently with our Archbishop, Regional Bishop and others in the Sydney Diocese

Personal attributes will include

  • an Anglo-Catholic formation with a sound understanding of Anglican doctrine, traditions and Articles
  • the energy, desire and organisational skill to engage with parishioners of all background and ages
  • warmth, patience and caring
  • a leadership style that is inclusive and strong on communication
