The Church Missionary Society will be farewelling long-serving NSW General Secretary John Menear this Friday, and it appears he has nowhere to lay his hat.

“Janelle and I will be leaving in a few weeks for Hong Kong, where I will take up my position as Vicar of St Andrew's Kowloon”, says Mr Menear.

“However I was informed late last week that we do not have an apartment to move into, as the vicarage is being renovated.”

The lack of accomodation is obviously a concern in a city already teeming with millions of inhabitants.

“Could you please pray that a place is found for us, otherwise we might have to make our home in a junk on Kowloon Harbour!” Mr Menear says, smiling.

Mr Menear will be departing for Hong Kong on October 9 with plans to start work the very next day.

But he takes up his task with the support of Sydney Anglicans.

“St Paul's Chatswood and St Barnabas' Broadway have agreed to be linked to us in this support, which we are excited about,” he says.

Rev. Allen Quee has accepted the position of Acting General Secretary of CMS-NSW until a permanent replacement for Mr Menear can be found.

Mr Quee served as General Secretary of CMS-South Australia from 1965 to 1972, then with CMS at All Saint's, Jakarta from 1992 " 97.

He has many years experience in parish ministry, and is a valued member of the CMS General Committee.

Supporters wishing to farewell John and Janelle Menear are invited to attend the Broughton Knox Centre in Moore College at 7.30 pm this Friday.

Interested people are requested to RSVP to CMS on 9267 3711 or email nsw@cms.org.au

A parking map can be emailed on request.
