Anglican Synod to meet again today: Church Discipline and Finances on agenda

The Synod Anglican Synod will meet again today under the chairmanship of Archbishop Peter Jensen.

The Synod will meet today from 3.15pm in the Wesley Theatre, 220 Pitt Street, Sydney.

Primary matters will be the draft Church Discipline Ordinance, to be taken at 4.30pm, and the Synod Finance measures that will be discussed at 7.00pm.

The discipline ordinance discussions at 4.30pm will be consideration of an exposure of a new draft ordinance.

The Anglican Church is consistently attempting to upgrade and update its procedures for dealing with allegations of misconduct, including sexual abuse, by clergy and lay church workers.

This discussion is part of the effort to be transparent in these matters and to seek the mind of church members on the issues.

After today's discussions, Synod members and parishes will be asked to forward any written comment they have so that the final draft of this Ordinance can be brought to the Synod next year.

Media are permitted to film, record and photograph the Synod today.
