Former TV producer Allan Dowthwaite has been appointed Chief Executive Officer of Anglican Media Sydney.
Mr Dowthwaite joins the organisation from Anglicare, where he held a management position within the charity’s Communications Division.
The new role will see Mr Dowthwaite return to an industry he has been involved in professionally since 1988. He ran his own production company before working with Anglican Media in establishing its corporate production arm, Total Visual Solutions (TVS).
As CEO, Mr Dowthwaite will oversee the publishing of Southern Cross, a number of key diocesan websites as well as the production of evangelistic television and radio programming.
He says Anglican Media has a significant role to play in the Diocesan Mission. “I see our key role as communicating the gospel to those outside our churches, and communicating the plans and strategies for the Mission to those inside our churches.”
“To gain a hearing for the gospel in today’s culture is an exciting challenge. We can reach many people via the mass media, but more importantly, we can encourage and support churches in the mission, which will see the gospel disseminated into their local communities.”
Mr Dowthwaite is married to Sarah, and has been a member of St Paul’s, Castle Hill since 1976, where he is currently the rector’s warden. He is part way through the Diploma of Biblical studies at Moore College.
Mr Dowthwaite says he is very grateful for the achievements of Anglican Media’s previous CEO, Deaconess Margaret Rodgers, over the past 10 years.
“Under Margaret’s leadership a number of separate Diocesan departments have been moulded into a very professional media unit,” he said. “It is a very solid foundation from which to move into the future. I look forward to working closely with Margaret in her new role as Diocesan media officer.”
