An Abbotsleigh girl has been learning the gentle art of giving a guest ‘enough rope’ from master interviewer Andrew Denton - but this time the ABC celebrity was in the hot seat instead of the host’s chair.
Jennifer Sharp is one of only 12 students selected nationally to be involved in a project allowing young achievers to question high profile Australians.
The year 11 student says interviewing television broadcaster Andrew Denton in front of fellow senior high school students was "really quite exciting'.
Her tactics centred on using his own tricks against him.
"For the first question I said, "I want to ask you something you previously asked one of the guests on your show', so I asked him the question he asked Natalie Imbruglia " "Do you think you're beautiful?'"
"He replied, "That's fairly obvious. I'm not going to make a joke of that. I'm beautiful on the inside."
The interview was part of Talkback Classroom, an initiative of the National Museum and Parliamentary Education Office that aims to develop young ambassadors for Australia.
Jennifer says becoming a journalist is a long-term goal.
"I'd like to study Communications at university, do time at a gossip magazine for fun and the experience, then move into more serious journalism later on."
Jennifer says the opportunities Abbotsleigh provides, like serving on the school newspaper, are equipping her for that future.
"The opportunities you get at Abbotsleigh are ones that I wouldn't get at a lot of other schools, particularly the extracurricular activities."
Jennifer's interview will appear on Radio National program Life Matters at a date yet to be scheduled.
