Any more generosity on the part of Christians like Les Nixon and there wouldn't be room for the pilot.
Kids in small western towns will be benefiting from another plane packed gifts this Christmas, thanks to the kindness of the Christian charity, the Outback Patrol.
Children from Birdsville public school have been amongst the first recipients.
Pilot Les Nixon has flown two sorties to the isolated township where he conducts a Scripture lesson before presenting the gifts to the pupils.
“The gales of excited laughter are enough to make it all worthwhile”, Mr Nixon says
Retired executive Bill Smart's loaded Piper Saratoga recently left Bankstown airport with hundreds more of the gift-wrapped shoe boxes.
The Patrol's pilots willingly pay for the rent of the planes and the fuel for the chance to demonstrate some much-needed Christian love.
Mr Nixon says the Outback Patrol gives hope to families who are battling the worst conditions in the west.
"Things are so bad again, many parents thought there'd be no Christmas this year without these gifts," he says.
Outback Patrol planes have also visited the towns of Quilpe, Hebel, Bollon, Cunnamulla, Weilromingle, Eulo, Windorah, Eromanga, Yowah, Tibooburra, Wannaring, Louth and Byrock.
The gift boxes delivered are assembled by Sydney Anglicans and other city folk who see their Christian charity extending well beyond the edges of Australia's coastal cringe.
Each box contains items of clothing, toys, soap or toothbrush games, and a Christian comic.
Nixon says the value of the giving lasts all year long.
"Families never forget that someone cared enough to do it."
