Anglicare Sydney is spearheading a push by the Sydney Diocese into a new housing development in South-West Sydney that will be home to more than 30,000 people.
The Oran Park Township project is the first stage of the major South West Growth Centre development which will have an estimated overall population of 300,000 by 2018.
Anglicare Sydney's Chesalon Living has successfully tendered to build a seniors' living community in the Oran Park development, comprising independent living villas and apartments, serviced apartments for the elderly, assisted living units, a day centre for the elderly, and a residential aged care facility for both high and low care, along with a dementia specific unit.
However, in what is a first for the Sydney Diocese, the project also includes a "community hub" that will serve the Oran Park community, comprising an Anglican church as well as a regional Anglicare Community Care centre, a child care service and offices which will be leased to allied health professionals. Macarthur Anglican School is also located less then two kilometres from the new Chesalon Living site at Oran Park.
"This represents a wonderful opportunity for us to holistically deliver a range of our services across Anglicare portfolios and operate in close partnership with the hub's Anglican church", said Anglicare Sydney CEO, Peter Kell.
"This is the area set aside for the planned expansion of the Sydney metropolitan area. Consequently, it is highly strategic that we secure a position in this area of future community growth in order to further Anglicare's vision of lives changing and communities growing by care through Jesus Christ".
Chesalon Living was chosen from among 18 aged care providers who submitted expressions of interest to Landcom, the developers of Oran Park Township in a bidding process for this much sought after project.
"Most of the submissions came from providers who are much more experienced than Chesalon Living in delivering projects of this size", said Rob Evers, Anglicare Sydney's Director of Chesalon Living.
"Much hard work went into the submission and it was the quality of the design concepts, in particular the inclusion of the community hub, which drew high praise from Landcom.”
In keeping with Chesalon's over-sixty-year history of Christian care, the development will be providing a range of housing options for seniors, including subsidised accommodation.
