Arriving in style at the St Andrew’s House foyer in a 1959 Cadillac, Bishop of Wollongong, Al Stewart, has launched his new book.
A film crew, photographers and journalists from a range of media organisations were present to cover the launch of Blue Bottle Books' Men: Firing Through All of Life , which addresses problems facing "average Aussie blokes' today and offers solutions from the Bible.
SHORE chaplain and long-time friend of Al Stewart, Matthew Pickering was emcee for the launch and says the book "does a great service to middle-aged men by dealing with not-so-secret men's business".
"I hope it connects with the middle-aged man and leads them to an active faith in the Lord Jesus," Mr Pickering says.
Phillip Jensen says Al Stewart's book is perfect for all men.
"It's short and has lots of pictures. What more could a man want?" he joked.
"It's funny, masculine and it's about Ecclesiastes and Jesus. I have never read a book that I can so easily give to any man in Australia."
Sexual Health Counsellor, Dr Amelia Haines, who contributes an appendix to Men, also addressed those present and Christian singer/songwriter Matt Lucas performed three songs from his new album Some Days are Better.
Bishop Stewart hopes the book addresses the "great angst' men often feel as they hit midlife.
"Many blokes do stupid things that ruin their own lives and lives of people around them as they hit a midlife crisis," Bishop Stewart says.
"There is a build-up of pressure, angst and heartache and they wake up one morning and decide to do stupid things like commit adultery and leave their families."
Bishop Stewart says his book walks readers through Ecclesiastes and shows them that this has always been a struggle in life.
"If the reader is not a Christian I want them to see the difference following Jesus makes. If they are Christian, I want them to understand the difference following Jesus should make in their lives," he says.
