STEP 1: READING
Read Luke chapter 19, verses 1-27.
STEP 2: REFLECTION
Some people put so much emphasis on the welcome that Jesus gave sinners that they forget the demand for repentance. Sinners like Zacchaeus were not popular or pleasant people. Indeed, the Pharisees were far more admired, and admirable than the tax collectors. When Zacchaeus received salvation, his life was necessarily transformed. He did not purchase salvation - no one can do that. But his life was changed. He was a new man. People were thinking that the kingdom was close. Jesus used a contemporary story about the nobleman who went to Rome to receive his kingdom. All now depended on how citizens made use of his absence. Some were fruitful, some were idle, others were rebellious. All would be properly dealt with when the King came back. If you are looking for the kingdom, that is good. Make sure that you are ready for the return of the King.

1 In what way has the kingdom come? In what way is it still to come? What is the essence of life in this interim period.?
2 In what way was Zacchaeus 'lost' before he met Jesus? What did Jesu mean by pointing out that Zacchaes was a 'son of Abraham also? Why did Jesus come into the world according to this passage?
