Evangelism and New Churches is about to hold its first Sydney conference on ministry to those from the subcontinent.

People from from the subcontinent (India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Nepal and Bangladesh) make up the second largest group of immigrants in Australia and the director of ENC, the Re Bruce Hall says its vital that Sydney anglicans be enthused to reach out to them with the gospel of Christ.

"Our aim is to encourage those involved in subcontinental ministry, to enthuse others to be involved in a growing ministry opportunity on our doorstep and provide some ideas in doing it" he said.

Among the seminars in the half day conference, on Saturday 11th August, will be 'Hinduism, Pluralism and Subcontinental worldview', 'Ethnic churches: 1st generation verses 2nd generation' and 'Ministry to subcontinental women'.

There's also be a session on ministry among university students.

The event will be held at St John's Cathedral, Parramatta which has a thriving ministry to people from the subcontinent. It has also recently appointed Rev Priya Atputharaj, who ministers in a University and in the cathedral congregations.

Keynote speaker at the event will be author and Bible teacher Dr Peter O'Brien, who spent 10 years in India.
