A local Anglican church and Anglican Retirement Villages are building on their strengths to create a ground-breaking ministry to the Hills business community.
St Andrews Crestwood was a Christian community perched on the edge of the Hills district's massive Norwest business park, while ARV owned premises in the heart of that locality.
Minister the Rev Chris Jones says the congregation's parish strategy recognised the need to engage with the growing commercial community.
"When ARV moved their administration to Norwest the bells started ringing that we might have a venue available. And once we started meeting with staff we really started developing some great synergies," Mr Jones says.
A name-change later and the church, now known as Norwest Anglicans, is partnering with ARV to run a forum for businessmen and women keen to investigate Christ.
St Andrews members recognised early on that fulfilling the diocesan mission would mean radical action on their part.
"We wanted to multiply congregations and if we were going to do that we had to open ourselves to the possibility that we would be doing so at locations other than the St Andrews site," Mr Jones says.
Volunteers from Norwest Anglican meet in an ARV boardroom Tuesdays at 12.30 in the Century Corporate Centre on Norwest Boulevard.
Organisers prepared themselves for a small turn out initially, and were surprised by almost 50 attendees for the first Bible study.
Helen Lear from ARV says the partnership is managing to create just the sort of relaxed atmosphere that encourages participation.
"People working in businesses are appreciative of the opportunity to explore a Christian perspective," Ms Lear says.
"Norwest Bible Business' mirrors business outreach seminars begun in Sydney's CBD and North Sydney.
Networking over a light lunch is followed by a topical message with time for questions.
"All our initial ideas went out the window as we started to grapple with what sort of ministry would work best in this environment. The idea was to make the speaker vulnerable so that the listeners would be more comfortable," Mr Jones says.
The first six meetings weekly meetings are targeting "Real Questions, Real Answers', with topics including "Good God! Why does it hurt so much?' and "One minute after you die'.
