A new appeal has been launched for the victims of the famine in the Horn of Africa.

The region is suffering the worst drought and famine of the last fifty years.

More than one million lives are already at risk and up to ten million could be endangered as the crisis is expected to drag on into next year.

The Archbishop of Sydney's Anglican Aid announced the Horn of Africa Famine Crisis Appeal, which began on August 1st.

The object is to raise half a million dollars for the famine victims in Somalia, Ethiopia and Kenya.

Anglican Aid is calling on the goodwill of all Sydney Anglicans for what it describes as "an extraordinary outpouring of compassion and generosity" to raise the money.
