Well-known evangelists Karl Faase and Al Stewart have launched a new TV show pitched as a cross between The Footy Show, Rove and Katoomba Men's Convention.
Each episode of the live-format "variety' style show will include interviews with experts who will unpack Christian thinking on issues as diverse as work and marriage, finance and fatherhood, sex and porn.
Perhaps most uniquely the show will include a Bible talk either from Karl Faase, who is pastor of Gymea Baptist Church, or Al Stewart, who is an Anglican Bishop and chair of the Katoomba Christian Convention.
Bishop Stewart said the talks he gives on the TV show will have a practical focus.
"We feminize the Christian faith in all sort of way" but Jesus says to men step up and look after the people we love" . So when we say follow Jesus what does that look like? We will look at eleven big building blocks for life."
Karl Faase is quick to dispel any notion the show will be mainly aimed at blue-collar blokes.
"We are pitching this at a fairly broad audience" we certainly want to engage the average dads."
Mr Faase said the fact that the men's shed movement "had really taken off" and that crowds of men "keep turning up" at the Katoomba Men's Convention prove there is a real need for this kind of show.
"There is not much out there for Christian blokes, especially if they are not readers" and most of it is American," he said.
Each episode will include live music and a regular spot with Melbourne-based comic-poet Cameron Semmens.
The Men's Series will screen on the Australian Christian Channel, although Mr Faase has not given up hope that a commercial TV station may pick it up. It will also be turned into a DVD for use in church ministry.
Originally titled "The Bloke's Show" it was changed with one eye on international sales. Negotiations are under way for the show to screen in New Zealand, the UK and Indonesia.
