Workers at the Anglican Church's HQ are now humming to the sounds of Pink Floyd as they literally struggle to remove the wall between them and parishes brick by brick.

The "wall' was created by Mark Payne, head of parish services, to promote a "customer service' focus amongst church administrators by rewarding staff who help parishes.

As staff solve a problem for a parish, Mark removes that parish's "brick' from the wall.

"The wall is an image of the barrier that can exist between the Sydney Diocesan Secretariat and parishes," says head of Parish Services, Mark Payne.

"Our focus is to help parishes be less burdened by administration," he says.

Mark's new Parish Services team began operation in February.

Now working "shoulder to shoulder' with church workers is Evelyn Beaver, Client Manager for the Property Team.

Fresh from dealing with a difficult tenant for a Sydney parish, Evelyn says she is "excited to be part of the Mission for Sydney'.

The rent cheque she collected will go towards paying the parish's ministry expenses.

"It's a tangible way we can help in ministry," says Mark Payne.

"We want to take the load off parish leaders in administration and free them up for front-line ministry."

So with this focus, Evelyn has assisted the four parishes in the Leichhardt Local Government Area to come together and address their common heritage concerns.

She assisted the parishes to prepare a joint submission addressing proposed changes to the Local Council's heritage policies.

"It was pleasing to achieve an agreed Parish position from parishes representing a variety of ministry styles," she says.

Next step for Mark is to employ a Clergy Services Manager.

"Then we can provide a one-stop, high value team to support clergy and parishes in all their clergy remuneration concerns," he says.
