As you read this I am on leave. I have gone up the coast and will not be moderating any comments you might choose to leave.
One in four Australian, full time employees have accrued 25 days or more annual leave. That is a lot of people and a lot of leave.
Tourism Australia has been running a campaign under the slogan 'No leave, no life.' They are trying to unlock some of the 123 million days of accumulated leave. If more Australians took their leave and took it in Australia that would help our domestic Tourism Industry.
It got me thinking though. How should we encourage Christians to use their stockpiled leave?
First thing first - start by taking this year's leave. Don't sell yourself into wage slavery and drive yourself into the ground. If you're an employer then encourage your employees to take leave - you'll help them have a better life and also help increase productivity and reduce sick leave.
But what to do with stockpiled leave? Are there gospel opportunities the accrued leave gives us? I've been encouraging people at church to use their accrued leave and come to CMS Summer School in January. It would be great if a number of us are able to do it.
But what else could be done? Could a number of people take leave together and run a Holiday Kids Program, go on Beach Mission, do a short term mission? Maybe volunteer with a church or ministry you support? Visit a missionary?
With any luck I'm sitting in a cafe somewhere, deliberately offline and unable to contribute to this conversation. But over to you - what are some good ways to use that extra accrued leave?
