The Macquarie Christian Studies Institute is following up its presentation of controversial Anglican Bishop of Durham, Tom Wright, with two other cutting-edge Christian speakers it hopes will provide similar ‘sold out’ performances this weekend.
US faith/work expert Os Guinness is making a Sydney detour this Friday to launch the MCSI/Zadok Conference, Reclaiming our voice:Christians Coming Out in Public (June 2 " 4).
Mr Guinness will be speaking on A world safe for diversity " Christian voices in a world of exploding pluralism.
He will be followed up the following day by William Cavanaugh, an associate of the Radical Orthodoxy movement.
MCSI Director Dr Gordon Preece says both speakers are well worth planning the weekend around.
“Dr Guinness is one of the world's most outstanding contributors on the intersection of Christian faith, culture and vocation,” he says.
“While Mr Cavanaugh has a wealth of insights, especially on the myth of religious violence, influenced by his time living in Chile under Pinochet.”
Dr Guinness has recently retired from the leadership of The Trinity Forum and has led executive retreats at the highest levels in Europe and USA.
He is the author of over twenty books including The Dust of Death, The Call: Finding and Fulfilling the Central Purpose of Your Life and his most recent book, Unspeakable: Facing Up to Evil in an Age of Genocide and Terror.
“People are travelling from interstate to attend the conference,” says event co-ordinator Nadja Leffler.
"These speakers are another way that MCSI is helping thinking Christians to apply God's wisdom to the challenges of work, society and everyday life," Dr Preece says.
