St Andrew's Cathedral will be the focus of two television broadcasts this Christmas and, for the first time, two other Christmas events will be live streamed on the Internet.

Churches all over the Sydney diocese have drawn thousands to carol events, held in church buildings and at civic centres and outdoor venues.

Figtree Anglican Church, which has run carols for 17 years, again successfully staged Figtree Community Carols headlined by high profile entertainer, Colin Buchanan.

At Ryde, St Anne's church partnered with its Chinese and Armenian ministries to run a Christmas outreach at Top Ryde City Shopping Centre.  An Anglicare toy collection point in November was followed by a Christmas Carnival in December.

Similar outreach events have been held across Sydney, Wollongong, the Blue Mountains and the South coast and highlands.

Anglicare has received more than 25,000 food items and toys from across Sydney and volunteers have sorted, checked and packed more than 1700 hampers and 3000 toy bags.

More than 130 churches were actively involved, as well as Anglican schools. Four Anglicare vans have been kept busy picking up and delivering donations.

Carols on TV

After a good reaction last year, the ABC has announced it will re-telecast 'Carol's from St Andrew's' at 7am on Christmas morning.

The Cathedral is hosting 12 events in Christmas week, starting with Colin Buchanan's Christmas concert (10am and 1pm) on Wednesday 19th December,

That night, Archbishop Jensen will speak at the Healing Ministry Carols, which will be live streamed on the Internet.

At lunchtime on Thursday 20th, the NSW Police Band will perform at a free Christmas Concert at the Cathedral with Commissioner Andrew Scipione speaking.

On Christmas eve, seats are often at a premium, starting with the Family Christmas service at 4pm. At 6pm, 8pm and 11pm Dean Phillip Jensen will preach at the carols services and the 8pm event will also be live streamed.

Archbishop Jensen's Christmas message will be released on Christmas eve and Dr Jensen will speak at the Cathedral's main Christmas day service at 10 am.
