Christians have an opportunity to apply for $100,000 worth of grants aimed at those who have a heart for mission.

Lisa and Frank Scerri are the founders of Melbourne-based Christian travel agent, Mission Travel, the organisation behind the grants. They felt led by God to provide financial assistance to people passionate about growing God's kingdom.

"As much as we’d love to put the money into our mortgage or our own needs, there is an urgency to live out God’s work with those who are lost and in need," Lisa Scerri said.

Christians who are interested in mission work, whether that be visiting a sponsor child or link missionary, commencing overseas mission work or something closer to home, can apply for up to $10,000 to fund their missionary goals.

"We want to hear from people and ministries around Australia about what God is calling them to do and how a grant could make that happen. We then get the fun part of funding those dreams and seeing the kingdom of God extended," Mrs Scerri said.

There are 13 $5,000 and $10,000 grants on offer in the following categories: Overseas Experiences, Bible College Scholarship, Compassion Sponsor Child Visit and Cash Grants.

Applications close on June 24 and will be judged by a panel which includes: Frank and Lisa Scerri (Directors, Mission Travel Australia), Garry Williams (CEO, Christian Management Australia), Glenn Scott (Director, Prime Charter Accountancy) and Richard Beaumont (Entrust Foundation).

Winners will be announced at an event in Melbourne in August.

Mission Travel is a Christian organisation which seeks to ‘create travel opportunities with heart, as well as an ever-widening community of Christians sharing their travel adventures and God’s direction for their lives’.

"It’s our passion to bring people’s dreams about making a difference to life," Mrs Scerri said.
