After more than a decade of negotiations the back block of Bishopscourt, the Archbishop of Sydney’s residence, is to be developed and sold.
The Standing Committee of Synod approved the development and sale of the land behind Bishopscourt for residential use last month. Some funds from the sale of the land will be used to maintain the heritage-listed Darling Point property.
A green light was given for development plans in 1999 when the Sydney Anglican Church Property Trust won a battle against Woollahra Council in the Land and Environment Court.
Bishopscourt has been home to the Archbishop of Sydney and his family since 1910 when it was bought for £6750.
