On July 16, nine people from Naremburn-Cammeray Anglican Church (NCA Church) will travel to India to train local church leaders.
The team, which will be led by Assistant Minister, Rev Matt Lemsing, will spend two weeks working with the India Gospel League (IGL).
“The growth of the church in India is amazing,” Mr Lemsing said. “There are more people becoming Christians than [the IGL] can train pastors for.”
NCA Church has previously sent two teams to India in partnership with the IGL and Moore College. They will spend two weeks in India assisting about 200 pastors to better understand Biblical theology.
“Biblical literacy [in India] is very high, but they need training in understanding how the Bible fits together,” Mr Lemsing said. “We will spend a week in Salem teaching Ephesians and a week in Ooty teaching Biblical theology.”
For many pastors, the training they will receive from the NCA Church team will be the bulk of the training they receive throughout their careers.
“We have a wealth of resources here in Sydney,” Mr Lemsing said. “Many Indian pastors will only come to two of three of these courses, sometimes the some one more than once; most won’t go to Bible college.”
The courses are conducted over four days and will cover 10 weeks worth of Moore College material. Translators will translate all lectures and discussions into Tamil, but Mr Lemsing says that many pastors have a good grasp of English.
Most of the NCA Church team have never been to a third world country; Mr Lemsing believes this will be quite a challenge for them, however they are well prepared and really looking forward to their time away.
“There is a strong sense within the team that we are going to work alongside brothers and sisters in Christ,” Mr Lemsing said. “We are also really exited to see how God is working around the world.”
