Strathfield's Korean congregation is recruiting a new pastor to help cope with their own success in their inner-western community.

The Rev Kevin Kim, pastor at St Andrew’s, Strathfield, is bringing his former mentor Jae Koo Shin back from Korea to help consolidate and continue the church's growth.

The Korean-speaking congregation began as an off-shoot of St Matthias’, Centennial Park, in 1990 with 40 members.

The ministry has now swelled to four separate congregations, including a 100-strong Korean-speaking church meeting Sundays at 11:00 am.

Jae Koo Shin trained at Moore Theological College in the late 80s and was the founding member of the Korean Bible Fellowship.

He returned to Korea in 1994 to plant an evangelical church in Seoul, but is resigning his position to work side by side with Mr Kim.

Mr Kim says he's convinced Mr Shin has the skills to consolidate the Korean congregation and take it to the next level.

"He was the obvious choice to help us. He was the one who encouraged me to consider the ministry. I'm really looking forward to working with him."

Top of this new team's "to do' list is the publication of new Korean language resources for use across Sydney.

Mr Kim and Mr Shin are already hard at work on translating a Korean version of "Two Ways To Live' and the accompanying training manuals.
