The spread of the Gospel in India is being given a helping hand courtesy of a union of concerned Sydney parishes.
From Nowra to Naremburn, parishes across Sydney are sending teams overseas to assist with the work of the India Gospel League (IGL).
A 14-member team from the parish of Naremburn/Cammeray is being lead by assistant minister, the Rev Ken Noakes.
The team's focus is teaching pastors the basics of biblical theology.
In November the Naremburn/Cammeray group heads to the southern Indian city of Salem.
Here they will work with IGL to teach elements of Moore College's preliminary theological certificate course, including "Old Testament 1'.
Rev Noakes says the trip was inspired by the desperate need to get the Gospel millions of Indians.
"There are barefoot pastors out there leading churches of 30 to 50 people in regions with very few resources and very little understanding of the Bible."
This latest evangelistic expedition is part of a much larger plan being spearheaded by IGL head Rev. Samuel Stephens.
In 1990 the Gospel League planned to start 1000 new evangelical churches across India by the year 2000.
To date, IGL has been responsible for establishing 20,000 churches, well surpassing their initial vision.
