A former television show host and Sydney Anglican minister is moving to Melbourne's east for a new phase of ministry.

After 11 years as rector of St Martin's, Georges Hall, the Rev Trevor Filewood will move to the evangelical parish of Christ Church, Hawthorn in Melbourne Diocese where he will be associate vicar.

"I'll be involved in the development and training of many of the young adult parishioners as well as ministering to the families and older members attending the morning services," Mr Filewood says.

Christ Church has many couples getting married in its building and Mr Filewood will be working closely with the engaged couples.

"In my first two years as a minister I was an assistant at Watsons Bay and I saw a good number of people converted during the wedding preparation process. I'm looking forward to that opportunity again," he says.

Christ Church office manager, Benjamin Van Cafpel says the ministry team are looking forward to being joined by someone of Mr Filewood's experience.

"Trevor will bring a certain maturity and experience to the team. We think he will be the "wise sage' of the office," he says.

Mr Filewood also brings his musical gifts to the music ministry team which he has utilised since his days as a folk singer in the late 1960s and as the host of Anglican Media Sydney's Sing Me a Rainbow in the 1980s.

Mr Filewood says he will miss Georges Hall after more than a decade of ministry there.

"I will miss the immediate contact with my mother and sister's family in Sydney and I will miss the fellowship with the folk at Georges Hall who we have spent 11 years with," he says.

"It's been good to see some of the children there grow into adulthood and mature in faith and its encouraging to see them taking significant leadership within the parish."

Trevor and his wife Ilana will have their final Sunday at St Martin's, Georges Hall on January 21 and will commence work at Christ Church, Hawthorn in late February.

"I thought I would like to be more part of a team ministry at some point," Mr Filewood says. "Nothing about Georges Hall makes me want to leave but I feel God has prompted me to take up this new position in Hawthorn."
