The Australian delegation at GAFCON has joined Christians all over Sydney in prayer for bushfire victims and for a break in the firestorm.
Archbishop Glenn Davies, who is in Nairobi, on Sunday commended the practical support many have already given to those affected and called for prayer.
Since then, many churches have organised special times for prayer as well as canvassing members for various types of support. Many have also rushed to bushfire service.
The Australian delegation was joined by other GAFCON delegates in prayer, both as part of its regular Cathedral service attended by more than one thousand and in a smaller gathering briefed by the Bishop of Western Sydney, Ivan Lee.
The conference attendees were anxious given the overseas news reports of Blue Mountains devastation.
Bishop Lee spoke of the thousands of dollars raised already for victims in Springwood.
His assistant in the Western Sydney region lives in Springwood but has not yet been ordered to evacuate. The meeting took place on the eve of what was dubbed 'Wicked Wednesday' for the potential of a severe worsening of the situation.
After one prayer meeting in Sylvania, specially written prayers were circulated for use by churches and individuals. The prayers can be downloaded here.
