More than 500 parents and kids have packed St Andrew's Cathedral to hear Colin Buchanan and his little helpers trumpet the true meaning of Christmas.
Colin took on the persona of an elf to perform songs from his latest album, The King of Christmas.
The audience was singing and dancing along with Colin as he used music to deliver the real message of Christmas.
Colin says in making his new album he wanted to be mindful of the cultural and Christian understanding of Christmas.
"In Australia there are things we enjoy about Christmas: the cultural celebration, the giving of gifts, the decorations, the family dinners and that is a real part of Christmas as we understand it in Australia," he says.
"But then there's the spiritual significance of the Christmas story that you read in the scriptures."
"I wanted to give justice to the cultural dimension, but really, the thing that will change lives " the real good news " is that Jesus Christ was born. God became a man and that was his way of identifying with us in everyway and becoming our saviour."
Colin says that he recognises the responsibility he has as a Christian singer and songwriter.
"The great thing is the scriptures are the word of God, not the word of Colin. When you put that into song you just want to do justice to the word of God and the good news that it contains," he says.
Ryan Millar, a parishioner of St Matthias', Centennial Park, who brought his two children Zoë and Lucy to the concert, says he appreciates the ministry Colin performs through his music.
"We bought the Christmas CD about two or three weeks ago and we know all the words. We love the message and the fact that it's repeating the Bible verses," he says.
"His concert obviously has a completely different focus to secular Christmas events. It's focused on what the meaning of Christmas is about " referring to Jesus openly without fear of being politically correct like a lot of Santa events."
Senior Minister at St Andrew's Cathedral, the Rev Chris Moroney, says it is important for the Cathedral to hold events like this as part of its ministry to Sydney Diocese.
"It's important that members from various churches can come to an event and rejoice together in the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ at Christmas time," he says.
"The great thing about Colin is he is Jesus focused and the kids know it. The kids get down on the floor close to Colin, the parents enjoy themselves and its great that we're able to be so flexible with the cathedral."
To finish off the show, Colin donned a basketball jersey, a baseball cap and some shades and attempted some break-dancing to old favourites.
Few cathedrals have rocked to the sounds of "Jesus Rocks the World', "King of the Jungle' and '10, 9, 8 " ' or seen kids bouncing beach balls across the aisles.
