Five Dock Anglicans hope to double their congregation on the eve of ANZAC Day as the local community gathers to remember the fallen.

The sound of bagpipes will greet visitors to St Alban’s, Five Dock for its 2005 ANZAC Service and remembrance ceremony at 9am this Sunday 24 April.

The service is a significant community event that has been going "for as long as people can remember', says acting rector the Rev Silas Horton.

Mr Horton says the event will be a great evangelistic opportunity and means a lot to parishioners, some of whom served in World War II.

"We'll use it as an opportunity to tell people about Jesus," Mr Horton said. "And we'll remind them that church is on again next week."

About 80 to 90 people are expected to attend, he said.

Archdeacon of South Sydney Deryck Howell will speak on John 14:1-12. The annual planting of remembrance crosses and a flag raising ceremony in the parish garden will follow the service. Morning tea will be held in the parish's historic Ridley Centre.
