What does it look like for an organisation to have too many projects and not enough production space?
“You end up with people working from home or people sitting in the corridors doing audio work,” says Christine Platt, the CEO of Global Recordings Network. “We can’t take on any volunteers or [have] any more people working in our Sydney studios – there’s just no space for them!”
Since 1939, Global Recordings Network has produced audio resources for evangelism and Bible teaching in more than 6500 languages, which is more than one language a week.
Last year alone, its Prospect studio remastered more than 140 recordings, revised and uploaded in excess of 380 programs from around the world, and worked on 12 programs in seven languages.
Ms Platt says there has been a space problem for several years, and while it’s a good problem to have, it’s currently limiting the reach of the ministry.
“At the moment, we aren’t very well set up for recording music,” she explains. “We’ve recorded music in minority languages, such as Mongolian. We’ve got old recordings that we fix up, but we can’t do that [right now]. We’ve got people who go out and do recordings and come back to do processing. They’re limited and we can’t have any more people doing that work.
“We also do a lot of training. The network expertise… is in the Australian office. We can’t bring people here [from overseas] to train them because we have nowhere for them to work. If they do come, others then can’t do their work. We’re limited in all of our major functions.”
Renovating a former Mp3 player production space in the office will create three new studios, including one large enough for group recordings and video. Ms Platt is excited about the impact these studios will have on producing audio gospel resources.
“We want to train our people from around the world to do a better job of recording, producing, and making engaging and useful teaching and evangelistic materials,” she says.
“As the world becomes more sophisticated, our recordings need to be better quality as well. Our Australian office is in a unique position to help them do their job better technically.
“We exist to tell the story of Jesus in every language. Pray these recordings get to people who need to hear them and who will be in heaven with us. We want these recordings to go out there and make disciples. We see these [new] studios as an important step in enabling us to do that.”
Prayer points:
- Praise God for the new recording work happening in a range of languages, including Indian and Indigenous languages
- Pray for the swift completion of the new studios, which are forecast to be ready at the end of this year
- Pray for the team as members record and produce in limited space
- Give thanks for funds already provided and pray the remainder will be raised to complete the build
