When Jesus speaks of the "least of these' in Matthew 25, to whom is he referring? Organisers of ReachOut, a weekend missions conference, say there are lessons in this passage for Sydney Anglicans considering world mission.
ReachOut, now in its 22nd year, is run by a committee of mission and Bible college representatives through Missions Interlink NSW.
It offers sound Bible-based motivation to get moving into mission, either by going or by sending others.
Sunny Phillip will head this year’s speaker line-up, sharing from his own experience growing up in India, where he has specialised in ministry to the medical profession.
He is currently in Australia completing his Doctorate in Christian Ministry and working part-time with Interserve Australia.
Joining him will be Matt Hunt, pastor of Helensvale Baptist Church on Queensland's Gold Coast and formerly a pastor in Sydney.
Mr Hunt will provide a valuable perspective on how the local church can be really engaged in world mission.
A highlight of this year's conference will be the launch of the Dorothy Brook Memorial Scholarship Fund, amounting to two $1,500 gifts to enable Bible college students to pursue their desire to head into mission.
“Dorothy Brook, who died in November 2004, founded ReachOut with her husband David back in the early 1980s,” says Andrew Collins, ReachOut Committee Chairman.
“ReachOut has been a great blessing to so many; it is a delight now to bless others through God's grace and the generosity of the Brook family.”
ReachOut is held each year at Katoomba, on the third weekend in August, and attracts mission-minded young people keen to hear the latest from the world's mission fields and to view displays from over 60 Bible colleges and mission agencies.
