Christian race-car driver Kirsty Last is heading to Germany to represent Australia in an international event that promises to deliver the ride of her life.

The 22-year-old Sydney Anglican has been Kirsty is striving to live as a Christian in an industry where there are few believers.

Her performance both on and off the track to represent Australia in a world cup event celebrating 40 years of Formula Vee racing Germany.

“I am still finding it hard to believe I am going,” Kirsty says.

“When someone contacts you out of the blue and says, ‘Hey, we have heard of you; come drive a race car at Nürburgring,’ you are naturally hesitant to accept it as real!”

The race will pit the Smithfield Road parish member against drivers from Great Britain, Ireland, South Africa and mainland Europe.

The car she currently drives in the NSW State championships is a 1984 Elfin with a 1200cc engine from a Volkswagen Bug.

The German Formel V Association will be providing her with a Golf powered Vee with wings.

Kirsty became a Christian on a youth camp in 1997.

Since then she has strengthened her ties with other believers in the industry by supporting interdenominational racing ministries like Christian Motorsports International.

The high-octane environment isn’t always kind to Christians but Kirsty has managed to carry her faith abroad to Dubai after winning a prestigious scholarship to join the pit crew for the Australian team competing in the A1 Grand Prix of Nations, the world cup of motor sport.

As a young aengineer and driver in the industry, the announcement represents the perfect opportunity for her to make contacts and learn from the best in the world.

Kirsty says she will be ‘hoping to take some inspiration from the Socceroos’ success in Germany’ when she takes to the Nürburgring circuit on October 6th and 8th.
