Sydney's Alanna Nobbs, Trevor Cairney, Noelene Beer and Melbourne's Peter Adam are among Anglicans honoured in the Queen's Birthday list.

The honours were released on Monday, 11th June.

The Governor-General, Quentin Bryce, said the awards "recognise shining examples of men and women who display the finest community values of respect and giving, dedication and commitment."

Professor Nobbs, of Macquarie University,  was made a member of the Order of Australia (AM) for service to education in the fields of ancient history and the classics as an educator, and through leadership roles in professional organisations, particularly the Society for the Study of Early Christianity.

One of the stalwart members of the congregation of St Paul's Castle Hill, Noelene Beer, was also given the OAM for service to the Anglican Church of Australia. As well as holding senior positions in the ministry of the Girls Friendly Society (now Kidzlink), she was the GFS Leader-in-Charge at St Paul's for more than 40 years. Although she retired from GFS work in 2008 she is still active in the 'Prime Time' ministry to older Australians and still teaches scripture at Oakhill Drive Public School. “I have just had the most wonderful time working with children” Mrs Beer told the Hills Shire Times.
